How to get there

By Bus

The trip normally takes you around 5 hours from Bangkok to Trat and from Trat's downtown another 20-30 minutes more for the transfer to Laem Ngop ferry pier to Koh Chang. Both air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned buses depart from The Eastern Bus Terminal on Sukhumvit Road near the BTS skytrain Eakkamai station and Northern Bus Terminal (Mor Chit 2) on Kamphangphet 2 Road. The air-conditioned buses are technically well maintained.

They all have adjustable seats excellent with firm lumber support and have much leg space, comfortable even for taller Western travelers.

By Car

1. Drive through Bangna-Trat highway no.3, passing Chonburi, Rayong and Chanthaburi. Distance is 385 kilometers.
2. Drive via Bangna-Conburi-Klaeng-Chanthaburi on highway no.344. The distance is around 315 kilometers.
3. Motorway is another alternative. Total fee is 60 baht, start from Rama IX or Srinakarin (first pay) to Baan Bung-Klaeng-Chantaburi and finally to Trat

Reaching Koh Chang

310 kilometers away from the Bangkok Metropolis to the province of Trat, Koh Chang Marine National Park consists of 52 islands of varying sizes, it situated in the Gulf of Thailand. The main island named Koh Chang is the largest part of it and is the second largest island of the Kingdom, after Phuket.

There are 3 piers in Trat to take the ferry to Koh Chang. All of them are located in Laem Ngob and is a 30 mins from Trat. A mini van called Songthaew is easily found around the Trat municipal market from as early as 6:00 am. Also, main areas where any group of Songthaew is parked may have a stand that sells ferry tickets. The fare to Laem Ngob is about 40 Baht per person.

The road on the island swoops up and down, over and around cliffs, with verdant mountains on one side and the azure sea on the other. Ferries connect larger Islands from either the mainland or other islands. There are now several large car ferries linking the mainland to Koh Chang. These ferries are also available for transferring passengers. More interestingly, you can spot smaller ferries plying with their trade in the better part of the Gulf of Thailand near the Cambodian border.
Ferry

Generally, most of tourists catch a ferry to the island. There are 3 piers available to serve the tourists:

Koh Chang Ferry at Thammachat Bay has 2 piers
Koh Chang Ferry and Ferry Koh Chang (Operation hour from 6.30 am to 7.00 pm) depart every hour approximately time 20 minutes to the island. Arrive Sapparos Bay. Both charge 50 baht per person and 150 baht per car for a one-way trip.

Centre Point Ferry
Open from 6.00 am to 7.00 pm daily all year depending on the weather. It take time 40 minutes arrive at Dan Kao, The fare is 90 baht per person and free of charge for vehicles. You can expect no discount for a round-trip ticket.

After arriving at any Koh Chang pier, you will see Songthaew the small pickups car which ready to take you to anywhere on Koh Chang. The fare start from 40 Baht to 80 Baht per person. Price are subject to the time of day and number of passengers.
Car and Motorbike Rentals

Car rental is the most pleasant choice to choose. Many types of vehicles you choose come with a car insurance. A motorbike can be hired at Baht 200-300 a day. The vendors also have a wide selection of bikes for rent along the street.
